I don't think I have the gear to take one that good... lol

Believe it or not, I take mine hand held without a tripod. The trick is to use "dot metering", so
the camera meters off only the lignt of the moon. I can use shutter speeds that way up to 1/1000th
of a second with low ISO. That photo is likely an HDR one which uses multiple exposures
The photo Nat M has posted is an example of matrix metering where the camera
considers the larger area of pitch dark with the moon, and so the moon looks super bright.
