Big heavy wet snow. I stepped outside a sec ago to snap this pic and I could feel the flakes hit my head. This is a kick in the a** after two days of 50 and 60 degree sunny weather. Spring starts in about 20 days! Yay!!
  • Calm before the storm
About an inch of rain and 1 - 5 inches of snow for us today and tonight. Rain has just changed over to snow. I believe where I am is on the lower end of the snow totals, thankfully.

@charsocal I live on the Huron River. It empties into Lake Erie a couple of miles away from us. As I said, knock on wood, ;) flood waters have never made it up to the house in the last 60 - 70 years, which is the amount of time hubby's dad owned the house, and now we own it. During the almost 12 years we've had the house, this is the second time that it has flooded like this. The first time. it was worse. But the water still never came close to reaching the house.Doesn't mean it couldn't happen. Technically, only the land down by the river is in a flood zone, the house isn't. The last time we refinanced our house with the local bank, they didn't require us to have flood insurance - but when the local bank sold our mortgage to a large out of state bank, that bank did/does require it.

The weather sure can be crazy, huh?!
You must be in the upper half of Indiana? I have cousins who live down in Evansville.
  • Calm before the storm
    Definitely post a pic!
In the last 11 1/2 years that we've lived here, this is the second time that the river has risen this high - the first time was worse! People were canoeing in our back yard, That was weird! I didn't like it because it allowed people direct access to our yard. When the river is where it should be, people stay on the river and you have the embankment (is that what you call it? The brick and rock that you dump at the river's edge to help prevent erosion?) that most really don't want to try and cross over. But even that first time, the water did not make it near the house. Then also, in the 50+ years that my husband's family was here, the river has never reached the house in all that time, either. Doesn't mean it couldn't happen, knock on wood!
The water has already receded, too, although because the ground is so wet, I expect more flooding when the spring rains come.
  • Calm before the storm
Wow! We are enjoying very mild weather. Our night time lows are mostly above freezing for the next 10 days and our daytime highs are ranging from mid 30s to low 50s.
We did have some flooding - nothing major. The river came up over the bank at the back of our yard. The neighbors get it worse - all of their storage/garden sheds are in a few inches of water. Those sheds are in such low spots that even when the river goes back down, they’re left in standing water.

Some familiar scenery from my yard. If you scroll up to the picture I posted after the snow melted,, you can see that bench and see where the river should be.
  • Calm before the storm
Right now the ground is really soft - at least on the surface. When you step on it, you can feel yourself sink a bit and water puddles up around your foot. If I remember right, we had a really mild first part of December last year and a lot of rain - the ground was saturated late last fall
  • Calm before the storm
Yeah, except now we're getting rain that we don't need. The ground feels like a soggy sponge when you step on it. By the time the rain finally stops tomorrow, we may have gotten as much as 2 to 3 inches.
  • Calm before the storm
Whoops! That came out as two different posts. We had highs in the 50s yesterday, and in the 60s today!
  • Calm before the storm
Thanks to crazy Michigan weather, that foot of snow we got between the Wednesday snow and Friday snow is GONE!

  • Calm before the storm
I don't think you could. I would never try even walking on it. First of all, it never freezes anywhere near smoothly. Because of the current, maybe? It has frozen on the surface from bank to bank, but I would never trust it to walk on it - not thick enough. Again, maybe because of the current? I also don't think it is cold enough for long enough at a time for it to freeze enough to even walk on.
My uncle lived on a lake and when I was small, I remember my cousins skating on it. My hubby's sisiter lives down the street and they have a pond in back of their house that they have skated on. I would never trust the river though.
I'll take and post pic of it if it freezes over again.
  • Calm before the storm
So I mentioned that on Sunday morning, we got some freezing rain. The surface of the snow didn't turn to ice, bit it did get hard and crusty. Right now, the crusty top layer of snow is about 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick and you can break it off in pieces.
So hubby got home from work yesterday and took Maia outside to play ball. He threw her ball (forgetting about the crusty top of the snow), and the ball isn't heavy enough to break through that crusty layer, and it bounces across the surface of the snow all the way down to the river and...yup, kerplunk - right into the water. Luckily, the dog can't run easily in that crusty snow - she has to leap through it - kind of like a deer. And luckily, too, my husband called her and she actually stopped and waited for him, and didn't run/leap down to the river and jump in after the ball. Hubby always keeps a fishing net down by the river, so he was also able to fish her ball out of the water.
I got a little chuckle out of that!

  • Ampario---do you try?
Sometimes I will try, sometimes I don't. I guess it depends on if I feel like banging my head against the wall at that moment. I hate closing out a survey, because there is always the tiniest minute chance that THAT survey could be the ONE I complete.
How about those Lab 42 surveys? Have you ever gotten those? They are not as plentiful as Ampario. I did complete a Lab 42 once and got credit for it, but all the other times, I was DQd and then it just stays on the Lab 42 DQ page - no redirect back to Univox for the 5 points.

Near Monroe, Michigan - not far from the Ohio border. We were getting freezing drizzle about 8:00 this morning.

It's snowing here again. Another 2 - 4 inches tonight into tomorrow. @mikeee and @sharonh Looks like this round of snow is missing you again?! @Carol hughes I think you might be getting hit again with more snow? I took a couple more pictures, but this time at night, just a few minutes ago at about 12:45 am. With all the snow on the ground and an overcast sky, it doesn't really totally get dark outside. Sorry, same scenery as the other pics - only so much to take pictures of in the backyard!

Definitely not! Her tastes are much too refined to do that.

Till she makes new yellow snow. Gotta love it too, when it's freezing butt outside and I take her out to go to pee and while she's out there she eats a bunch of snow and 15 minutes later, we're back outside to pee again.
  • Calm before the storm
Sigh! I used to love looking at a fresh snowfall before anyone walked on it and it was untouched. Now we have the dog and it is always trampled, kicked up, uneven with brown stains and yellow spots all over the place.
  • Calm before the storm
Yeah, it's fun until I have to take the dog out to do her business.

There's no way you can get rid of it? In the regular version you can just swipe it left or right, can't remember which, to get rid of it. I can't remember how far I got tonight. Not as far as you got though.

I don't have this problem, but I do know that when you refer people, you don't receive credit until they complete one survey or attempt at least 10 surveys. Those were the conditions last time I read about it - I don't know if they've changed since then. Not sure if this helps or not.

  • Valentines Day
Thank you. Yes, just a hobby. The actual bracelet still looks silver, it just came out rose gold looking in the picture. I would like to eventually try selling. Maybe someday. I did make the bangle, but I can't take credit for the actual design. That came from a tutorial on a site called Jewelry Making Journal - for any one who is interested in this type of thing - it's a great site!
Sweetest Day is just another "romantic" day to get people to part with their money. It's celebrated in the US on the third Saturday in October. I'm not even sure if it's celebrated all through the US, or just parts. We celebrate it - but again, just with small stuff. And while I get my son and daughter something small for Valentine's Day, on Sweetest Day, I only get hubby something small.
  • Super bowl
I absolutely could not believe it was from 2013! I thought it was maybe two years ago. How time flies!
  • Valentines Day
Thanks! She is 11. She'll be 12 in another month. :/ The metal parts in the picture came out gold/bronzy looking. Everything is actually silver.

Not really into football, here, so for me the commercials. Here's my all time favorite. Makes me cry every time I watch it!
  • Valentines Day
I love my loved ones every single day also, but I think I am guilty sometimes of taking them for granted. I see Valentine's Day, Sweetest Day, Mother's Day, Father's Day, etc. as just a way of expressing a little bit of fun love, nothing huge - small gifts, like a favorite candy bar, or cookies. Nothing that breaks the bank. Last year, I made my daughter this Valentine/heart themed bangle bracelet.
