I thought of something that might be fun. Post your favorite TV or Movie theme songs. I am going to start with two of my favorites, Game of Thrones (watch this one right through to the credits - all the GoT fans will apprectiate the clips at the very end - I know I did!) My other favorite is season two of The Tudors (the song is the same through all 4 seasons, but they use different shots of the actors as the show progresses and Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Henry Cavill both look great in the season two theme!)

Just wanted to let you know... I love TV shows and movies. Big fan of the both of them. I have a DVR that's usually maxed out and we sometimes watch shows that ended in January, in July, (by the time we get around to it with all the others).

But I can't really participate in these threads. Once there are 5+ videos on a page my slow DSL speed makes the page crawl trying to load it. Plus, I 2 minute video's usually take 5=8 of buffering time for me.

But I can say that I don't notice or pay attention to theme songs these days for TV shows. They just aren't as good to me as they were during Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley, All in the Family, Mary Tyler Moore Show and the like.

I would watch the beginning of Game of Thrones just for the theme, but you have to like that style of music.

I have to say that I have never seen either of those shows that you posted. Come to think of it... I do have one that I love above all else. Only the first season of the show though... Didn't watch the second and it was different anyways, I actually have the full song of this.. maybe sound a little morbid or depressing, but I like it. (I was able to play about 20 seconds of this and it looks and sounds like it's the full thing for the tv show - so I will post it hoping that it is).

Haven't requested a MasterCard payment in months so it could've changed but in the past I remember you could order a physical card. However it wasn't worth it because they charged $6 or $7 for it. When I requested MasterCard/Visa payments i'd use them to buy a gift card for one of the stores that are in my area. Most of the big nation wide stores will send you a gift card with no shipping fee.

Okay, as I said before... I have no clue about Game of Thrones. I don't even think I've read a "about" page on it. But... I know it's won lots of awards for best shows, etc.

I was just reading this article:
    http://www.msn.com/en-us/tv/news/george-rr-martin-has-another-tv-show-in-the-works/ar-BBvlCu1?li=BBmkt5R&ocid=spartanntp

And I thought of your post here and apparent adoration for GoT. So what I'm thinking is if that George RR Martin guy done such a great job on Thrones... then Wild Cards should be just as good. Plus, I could actually catch this one from the beginning. What do you think of it?
  • J Zerbs
    611
well Martin wrote the books but the show is mostly the same but different from I'm the books (from what I hear, I haven't read the books). Some of the changes were necessary in order to make into a tv show. In the books most of the characters are much younger, and you can't have people that young doing some the things they do in a book on a tv show or movie and some of things from the book you couldn't show at all. The show is going to end before the book series is so not sure how different they'll be from this point on.
  • Syvynn
    1.2k
and you can't have people that young doing the thingsJ Zerbs

What are we talking about here? Sexual things, killing people, etc?
  • J Zerbs
    611
yeah all of the above and then some. Well they do show young characters killing others and being killed in the show but you can't have sex scenes with 12-14 year olds ( including rape and bestiality) like they apparently do in the books. If you haven't seen it why not watch it from the start? If you like shows like that, it does have a lot of violence, sex, despicable characters and more often than not the "bad guy" wins.
  • Syvynn
    1.2k
Oh. I watch more "network" shows than I do "cable" shows. Kind of for that purpose. I tend to be a bit of a prude when it comes to showing too much sex on tv. The worst offenders, of the shows I've watched were True Detective Season 1 (watched it because Matthew became Cohle) and Sons of Anarchy that I must admit I had to fast forward through a bit... but a fellow classmate of mine was in the first couple of seasons so I had to watch (and get hooked on the story's minus the kink).
  • J Zerbs
    611
sounds like GoT wouldn't be a show you'd like then. I mentioned the theme song had been parodied by other shows in the TV theme song thread, one of them (eh, I don't know how to say this) made fun of the amount of male genitalia they show.
  • Syvynn
    1.2k
Well, isn't that something! LOL. I used to not be so bad but one day we were sitting around watching a prime time tv show on the networks at that, and we had our little 5 year old (this was about 15 years ago) watching too. I can't remember what it was, but it was something she could watch, not understand but watch. Anyways, next thing you know there's two people grinding away in a bed. Granted it wasn't as bad as a show on cable would make it but it was still the jaw-dropper-look-over-and-see-if-she-saw-that reaction. Since then I've just been really picky about that...

because, not once...ever... have I ever experienced a sex scene that made the episode. Now, I would guess that if you're watching a show on sex, then of course you'd expect it there. But watching a show about, I don't know... hospitals, or court rooms, or teenagers marooned on earth without adults...and there's a sex scene in just about every episode and sometimes more than 1... is just too much for me. There's no purpose for it, there is nothing about it that enhances the overall story of the show. Or the ones where they have 10 minutes of air left and they decide to have sex (somethings like that I've come across before) and you're like "really?!"

They say they add stuff like that in to attract viewers. Shouldn't the storylines, characters, actors, and design draw the people in? If not, just call it a porn and sell DVD's of it.

I like a lot of the shows that are on these days... but I guess that's why I will always be partial to a lot of older shows, they understood that you can make a great show without having to bare it all and more.

Someone actually came up with the term sexposition (a combination of exposition and sex, and obvious pun) after watching game of thrones. They'll often have a sex scene and during it will reveal critical plot points in the story or info about a character.

Although I have no problem with sex or nudity in tv shows or movies (isn't violence worse?) it does seem some shows add it just to attract viewers. I've actually seen/heard of people saying I'd like/watch that show if it had nudity in it but since it doesn't I'll just watch something else. In game of thrones Emilia Clarke said she would no longer do any nude scenes and I guess a lot of people (I'm assuming immature perverted men) responded with negative comments towards her.
  • Syvynn

Sexposition - I guess that was their way around the "it's not a needed scene" then.

In my opinion, violence was easier to answer a question about than a sexual one (nudity isn't bad as long as it's not some prolonged scene) when my child was young. But we rarely watched anything violent when she was younger (we'd wait until it was a grandma night).

My hubby goes to work before 5am and doesn't come home until after 6:30pm. 30 minutes for showering and getting things ready for the next morning of work. about 45 minutes for eating and cleanup (we all do it together). That brings us to "around" 7:45 pm. He goes to bed at exactly 9pm every night. So we have 1 hour 15 minutes together as a family (minus the meal that we eat and clean up together). Hubby has long tiring days and just wants to relax for his 1:15 of "free time" so that's why we started watching tv together (plus we're not big talkers around here - so tv is perfect for us). So for us it's a "family thing" that we've done together since our child was really young and even as an 18 year old - we still do that as long as she's home at night.

So, even if I was okay with the sex scenes (which I'm uncomfortable with my own PDA so maybe that might have something to do with me not liking the amount of sexual things in tv these days) who would want to sit around and watch a sex scene with your child? That's why we always saved Sons of Anarchy (I watched True Detective by myself) for nights when Grandma had her.

In my universe it would be nice to have a "family option" when starting to watch a tv show. For instance... if you select the censored version you could chose between profanity, sexual, violence (or a combination if you prefer) filters before the show starts. Then it would mute the curse words or blur and mute a sex scene and violence scene. Something like that would be nice.
  • J Zerbs
    611
yeah it's not a show you'd watch with kids in the room, whenever I'm watching it whether at my house or at a friend or family members house we turn it off if a child enters the room because you never know what's going happen next in the show.
  • Syvynn
    1.2k
Oh... a button on your tv remote... instantly blurs, pauses, mutes the tv at the push of a button. That'd be perfect! Press it and usher the child out, press it again and continue.
  • J Zerbs
    611
yeah it seems to be their way around a otherwise not needed sex scene. They do it because that's what a lot of people want to see, it's all about ratings. Especially on a show like GoT which costs about 6 million $ per episode to make. If you haven't seen it and don't plan on watching it you could watch the video where Samuel L Jackson recaps it that posted. http://forum.univoxcommunity.com/discussion/1537/samuel-jackson-explains-game-of-thrones-so-far#Item_7
